I would firstly like to welcome everybody to the first Business Pages Networking Chamber for Tenerife
And for those who don’t know me, I am the sales and marketing director for Business Pages Tenerife, and bptenerife.com.
Yes I’m afraid to admit that I am the one responsible for the huge great white shark billboards, the annoying radio advertisements, and the intrusive marketing campaigns.
Today however, we are all about to embark on one of the most powerful marketing methods now available.
Networking is conducted all over the world; it brings together like minded individuals, people looking for business, and businesses looking for people. It will cost us nothing but time, and we can all gain so much out of it.
New friends, new contacts, and most of all those all important, new sales and leads.
We are all looking for new marketing methods, but the problem with our modern day work place, is our marketing is out of sync. Not out of sync with our products or services, but out of sync with our customers and consumers.
When I was a young lad, I would pass by a billboard everyday on my way to work. The billboard would display new messages about products and services newly available. I didn’t mind the fact that it was interrupting me as I walked. I didn’t mind because it was displaying bright colourful messages and keeping me up to date with the modern world.
Today however, I would be annoyed with that billboard. Annoyed with the fact it was now in my way, it was interrupting my walk. And I would most probably blame the company displayed in it.
Intrusive marketing is now out of sync. We have the internet, the most powerful information resource our world has ever seen. When we want something we can find it in the click of a mouse, we can find blogs on it, forums on it, and most importantly we can find the price we should be paying for it.
It is used by the highest group of spenders, and will always be just a mouse click away. It never hides anything, and it never forgets.
What we now need to consider is permission based marketing, a captured audience who will virally market your products and services for you. If I point to the corner of the room, you will all look, because you are my captured audience. You are all here because you want to be, you are all listening because you want to. Understanding this in our market place is vitally important to help our business evolve. Its not our products that need to change, it’s not our services, our logos or our shop windows. It’s the way we understand our customers and consumers behavior. And the way we use this knowledge to virally spread our message.
Business pages products and services are all permission based products. People use our directories because thy want to. Our newsletters are read by people who want to read them; they have the option to opt out if they wish. We don’t have tyre kickers, time wasters, or surfers.
The internet has taught us its ok to press delete, you can be elegantly rude on the web.
Ask your self, how many times have you picked up a business pages just for a good read,
Now I ask you how many times you have picked up a directory because you needed to find a product or service, you needed or wanted to spend money.
After conducting a telemarketing questionnaire we found 87% of our consumers, your customers, come to our directories to spend money on your products and your services.
Networking is a way we can further our marketing and go on to virally spread our messages. Everyone you talk to today is a potential client, and also another voice to spread your word.
As you walked in you will have been given a card, these cards are icebreakers. Very often I have seen networking start and stop with hello. These cards are a way for you to approach people and begin a conversation. Enjoy them and use them to learn about our evolving world.
Evolution, is what we can all experience today, evolution is how we can mold our businesses and understand our changing world.
